In order to be able to use this feature, you should first activate it in Global Preferences:

To start using this mode of selection, you must add the Expressions that will later be available to be selected from inside the campaign.

To do it, access the following route: Inventory>Sites>Predefined expressions

Click on “Add” and complete the field taking the following indications into account:

Expression

In this field, you must specify the structure to be considered as an “expression”. You should know the name of the items that are part of the structure in advance: Sites/Zones/Spaces.
Please use the following:

/ --> Indicates the levels.

* --> Indicates or considers everything that is inside of those levels. In this case, those would be the Zones and Spaces.

The expression must contain the 3 levels: Site/Zone/Space (E.g.: NewsX/*/*).

There is also the possibility of indicating ALL the account’s data in one expression:  */*/*

The following examples will not be valid:

NewsX/*
NewsX/Home
(The 3rd level is missing in both examples.)

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The spaces to be considered in the advanced targeting will only be the VARIABLE ones.

In the case of the Site “NewsX”, if you would like to create an expression considering all the spaces of every level of the site, you should do it in the following manner:

Complete the “Description” field, specifying what is included in the expression.

Then, click on OK. You will be able to see that the Expression has been added:

By contrast, if you need to create an expression that contemplates the spaces of a specific Zone only, you have to follow these steps:

If needed, the expressions can be edited or deleted:

Once the Expressions have been added, the Selection Mode option will change on the “Add campaign” page. It will be viewed as follows:

You can select the expression(s) to be considered in an inclusive/exclusive way from the list of available ones.

The Include/Exclude option is used to define whether you would like to include or exclude certain spaces in the selection. For instance, if there is a case where you would like to associate all the Spaces on a Home page except one called “Box300x250”, you could do so as follows:

With the Advanced Selection Mode on, the campaign will look as follows:

Companion Ads:

This functionality is not available with the Advanced Selection feature.

We will be providing support for this in future upgrades.

Once the campaign has been created under that selection mode, you cannot change it to another mode when editing it through “Global Preferences” (for example, selection from a list mode).

The advanced selection will link spaces that, at that moment, are included inside of the specified expressions (VARIABLES spaces only).

Besides, the use of this option imposes the “Automatically add to new spaces” feature. This implies that when creating new spaces, they will be automatically added if they are included among the campaign’s expressions.

According to what has been explained before, you can see that this functionality is related to the “Auto Creation of Spaces” feature (see related links).

Ads Association

With the advanced selection mode, when you add ads, they will be obligatorily linked to all the spaces included in the expressions which have been specified in the campaign. Moreover, every time a new space is detected in the account, the ad will be automatically linked (provided it appears among the specified expressions). It is very important to bear this in mind when creating a campaign, since several campaigns may apply to different ad sizes to be run:
